Vice Chairman & Secretary
Having a lifelong interest in cars and all things motoring my passion for MG’s started as a child in the sixties when my dream car was a MGB GT in red with wire wheels. During the seventies and eighties I was actively involved in the club motoring scene. My first MG was a Midget in which I competed in auto tests and rallies. In 1982 I achieved my boy hood ambition in buying a 1974 damask red MGB GT which I still own. I carried out a full nut and bolt restoration on the car at which time it was converted to wire wheels! It was successful in concours events but now the car is used mainly on social runs and like. Currently I also own a MGF VVC. Having joined the MGCC in the mid-eighties I joined the committee in the late nineties and take part in as many events possible.

Cars and car maintenance is something I have always enjoyed. I guess I picked this up from my father. We have a photograph from the early 1950’s of him working on his old Riley in the front garden. My sister had a beautiful new MGB GT in 1976 and she let me drive it once or twice. I loved it, my friends thought it was a bit old fashioned but to me this was part of the appeal. It was not until 35 years later that I finally acquired my own MGB Roadster, a 1974 model. I also run a 1975 VW Beetle which has been in my wife Margaret’s family since 1978. But nothing compares with driving the MG.

I am an electronics engineer by profession and have spent most of my career travelling the world working in the medical electronics industry. I have lived in Abingdon for over 40 years so MG’’s are in my blood. I have owned Mg’s since 1974 when I purchased my first new car, an MG midget. From there I have owned an mgb, mgbV8 and my current mgb roadster which I have owned and maintained for 41 years. I enjoy tinkering with cars and with 2 car owning daughters this keeps me busy. Recently retired I can now enjoy my B a little more and hopefully as a committee member, contribute to the Mgb register. My other interest is motorcycling.
Technical & Facebook
This year makes 41 years of continuous ownership of LAF717F. I was an Engineering Apprentice when I purchased her for £300 from a work colleague in 1979. Two years of unreliable but continuous use ended in her being laid up for over 16 years. I then began a long term restoration, progressing as and when I could afford the time and parts, wife and daughters taking precedence of course. I completed everything myself with the exception of the paintwork. On completion my daughter contacted the local Newspaper who published an article that mostly made light of the length of time it took me to restore her. The article was read by John Watson and led to an invite to join the Register Committee. That was a few years ago now. After a two year break due to work commitments I’m now back. I live in Abingdon and have recently retired, enabling me to spend a little more of my time immersing myself in the Classic Car world. I currently administer the MGB Register Facebook Group.
I’m a Domestic Appliance Engineer with some extra skills that I have developed over the years. My Wife had an idea in 2017 – “lets get a classic sports car!” So here we are with a 1975 Rubber Bumber Roadster. Having joined the MGB Register I could see a few missing links on the website. John Watson made contact and the rest is history. So I am the one who maintains the website and puts the eNewsletter together from the articles sent to me. If you have any queries – maybe you feel we need to add something extra – drop me an email.
