Daily Mirror London-Mexico World Cup Rally 1970
50th Anniversary.
British Motor Museum. 19th April 2020. 9.30am-4pm
The Historic Marathon Rally Group (HMRG) are organising a reunion and celebration of this iconic rally on Sunday April 19th 2020, at the British Motor Museum, 50 years to the day that the competitors left Wembley Stadium on their 16000 mile adventure through Europe, South and Latin America.
Although originally 106 teams entered, only 96 started from Wembley Stadium and there were just 23 finishers at the Aztec Stadium in Mexico 6 weeks later, with the Ford Escort , FEV 1H, of Hannu Mikkola and Gunnar Palm taking first prize.
Our event will include cars and personalities involved in that historic event, plus films, talks and interviews with the surviving competitors and participants. There will be a display of the surviving 1970 cars together with other marathon event vehicles. Plus a huge display of memorabilia.
This is a free to attend event, although there will be the usual charges for anyone wishing to visit the main museum. HMRG can assure all visitors that they will have a memorable day out, so please make sure it is in your diary.
The MGB Register owned Marathon MGB will be on display
