I got this interesting e-mail from John Prewer, who thought it could be of interest. Certainly a novel experience!
Let me take you back to Sunday June 5 1983, and no I don’t know what I was doing! I was just at the start of my second year of MG ownership with my 1978 MGB GT DVV 350T and was rebuilding my current MGB AER 155B which would be finished just three months later. But it was the day that the Space Shuttle Enterprise visited the UK on its the way back from the Paris Air Show.
The crowds were insane on the Sunday to watch the Shuttle arrive atop the Boeing 747 and I stayed away (I was probably rebuilding my MGB!), electing instead to try my hand at the inevitable traffic queues with a visit a couple of days later after finishing work on Bridge Street in Cambridge. A swift trip down the M11 and there were… no queues!
