WELCOME TO THE MGB REGISTER NEWSLETTER

PUBLISHED IN THE December 2018 SAFETY FAST

Ho, ho, ho, it’s that time of year again, the season to be merry, (goodwill to all, etc) and one’s thoughts can turn to Christmas past and, possibly, get all maudlin. Instead of that, let’s think of the positive and have a look at the MGB Register website and see what boxes of delight we could acquire for our loved one, wrapped up warm for the winter in its garage, or for Management who is organising the spuds and sprouts for you to peel. Do have a look at www.mgb-register.org/ You can also view our new MGB e-newsletter or have a look at the forum for answers to those niggly questions – about MGBs, I hasten to add. Here is a picture of Thomas Beck’s roadster in a suitably rural and colourful setting. Enjoy your Christmas…

Looking much further ahead, please put Sunday April 7 2019 in your diaries as it is too early for the new, W.I., kitchen calendar. This is the date for the MGB Spring Run starting from Millett’s Garden Centre, close to Abingdon Further details to follow in Safety Fast! and on our website.
Our webmaster, Paul, has been busy updating our MGB Photo Library section of the website – have you sent us a photo of your MGB? Also, have we added your MGB to our 20,000 registered MGBs?

In July I went to a local MG Natter meet at the Aero Museum at Newquay airport. There is an interesting collection of various decommissioned aircraft, many of which you can get into, ranging from an RAF VC10 tanker to Hawker Hunter and Harriers with a varied collection of smaller aircraft. The group was photographed in front of a Tornado with the RAF flag flying above, which  we thought was apt for the Centenary celebrations. Staying local for the moment, the West Cornwall Natter has moved its meeting night to the first Friday of the month and the venue to the Punch Bowl and Ladle, Penelewey, Feock, just near to King Harry Ferry. Meetings start at 8.00pm, though should you want to eat, meals are available from 6.00pm.

The Register had its Summer Picnic at Millets Farm Centre, near Abingdon, with 50 cars, or their owners, showing an interest. The last Sunday of July 2018 was a very special day for the MGCC’s London to Sydney Marathon MGB as it was able to drive in the parade at the 50th anniversary of the event under its own power. The event, organised by the Historic Marathon Car Group, displayed 15 cars that participated in the London to Sydney as well as cars from other World Marathon events, and many other rally cars. Also in attendance was the BL Special Tuning Transporter now owned by MGCC member Doug Samuel. Our MGB received many positive comments as well as praise of the Club for taking on the project. Its next main outing will be at the NEC Classic Car Show in November with other Marathon cars.

It is getting close to the date, September 22, for the Lecture at Radley College and there are still some places available. Some interesting people will be there: Paddy Hopkirk, Alec Poole, Rosemary Smith and representation from the Competitions department, Peter Browning and Bill Price. Have a look at the events page on the website for full details.
